Denver Colorado

It's Monday Morning, September 23rd, 03:45 a.m. at Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel. We are ready for our upcoming flight to Denver, which will take us about two and a half hours.

Oli is already anxious about the Football Game which takes place this evening at the Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. Based on the fact, that we don't have any tickets so far, the whole event is still uncertain.

Luckily we had a comfortable, windy and awesome flight, watching the sunrise. Due to heavy jetstreams our airplane reached the Airport of Denver 40 minutes earlier. That meant for us, that we had plenty of time to discover this mile high city. (called after the altitude above sea level).

At Denver Airport we could also take over our new car for the upcoming trip.

This time they gave us a Chevrolet Suburban - what a tremendous vehicle. ;-) (picture was taken on the Independence Pass on the way to beautiful Aspen).

Coors Field - the home of the Colorado Rockies (MLB)

Once we could grab some of the last available tickets for the popular Monday Night Football Game at Sports Authority Field (Football), we headed towards the baseball stadium, which is provided with the precious name "Coors Field".

In addition to the impressive view we could gather from the outside, we were able to book a stadium tour. It was a very spectacular and interesting experience to see behind the scenery of a professional sports company which is very well organized.

Coors Field was built in 1995 and is today the third oldest baseball stadium in the National League. So they think about how to improve the facility. Even though the team has one of the lowest payrolls in the whole MLB and will not reach the playoffs, they average over 35'000 attendance in an 81 home game season.

Coors Field is grounded in the historical district of Denver. Previously this area was affected by a lot of crime. The new stadium helped to develop the whole neighborhood into a busy and safety area.

Did you know, that the cheapest places to watch the game are only 4 USD? (situated on the right handside of the scoreboard)

 The Monday Night Football Game

Although we had already a very long and impressive day, our highlight was still waiting for us. We couldn't believe as we checked in at the Sheraton hotel downtown, what impact the upcoming game has on the whole population of this city. Hardly every person was dressed in orange, the colours of the Denver Broncos. As we left for the game, the streets were crowded and it took us forever with our cab to get to the Sports Authority Field, which was in passable distance from the hotel.

In the afternoon everything looked calmed and unspectacular around the stadium.

But in the evening, we could share the thrill with over 77'000 sports enthusiasts. The first time we got some goose bumps was during the national anthem. Always impressive how this nation stands behind their trooups and their country - the land of the free!
Even the Cheerleaders had their impacts in the game and heated up the atmosphere.
After every touchdown the celebration started with fireworks and with a performance of the Broncos mascot called Thunder. There's Thunder in the Rockies and there's Thunder at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

This game was unbelievable and for us a once in a lifetime experience. It's just different to watch some sports in America compared to Europe.
