As we left Denver in the early morning, our route to Aspen led us through magnificant sceneries. The fall clearly appeared in the mid-east of the United States.
Sorry for the stripes in the picture. It was taken during our drive through the front shield ;-)
The final few miles went over Independence Pass, which is about 12'095 feets (3'686 meters) above sea level and had already a lot of snow on top. Luckily the streets were clean. Otherwise it wouldn't have been possible to drive over this pass and we would have been forced to take a detour.
It was a scenic area but also kind of frosty. (no wonder on that altitude...)
Aspen - the St. Moritz of the Rocky Mountains
Late in the afternoon we ckecked-in at Limelight Lodge, which is situated in the heart of Aspen. After a first glimpse of our room, we took advantage of the complementary service of our hotel and went for a bike-tour to explore this place.
During that ride we noticed that Aspen is much smaller than we expected. A lot of Art Galleries, noble shops with common brands like Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and so on and real estate companies lined the streets. This is clearly a high-end ski-resort in North America.
We had a beautiful, two and a half hour bike-tour and were pretty exhausted as we got back to the hotel.
One of our first impressions...
The next morning we decided to go on a hiking-tour. We drove with our car uphill to the local Mountain of Aspen, called Maroon Bells. Once more we got lucky and catched the perfect day for this adventure.
On the way to the parking lots we could see some Mooses.
At the beginning of our hiking-tour Maroon Lake and its scenery awaited us with a spectacular view. It really attracted us that we made us on the way up to Crater Lake.
On our way uphill - a typical tourist picture ;-)
A Park Ranger and his "staff" crossed our way while delivering some goods up the mountain.
Two ours later, we finally arrived at Crater Lake. The steep and stoney way up was really worth it.
The view on Crater Lake.
Looking down at Marron Lake - our starting point.
Travel day to Moab with a quick stop at the River Valley Ranch Golf Course
A very beautiful and relaxing golf course with all the amenities you can ask for. Compare to other great Golf Courses, this one has by far the best value. A cart is included (see picture below) and has that fancy screen with an electronical scoreboard and a GPS.
We had a lot of fun together on this gorgeous place.
Another picture postcard day.
The picture below is a small foretaste of what will come on our next Post. We are currently visiting Moab (Utah). Cheers on a good time and thanks for following.
