Our stay at Bryce Canyon and how the U.S. government shutdown affected our scheduled travel-plan....

It is 6:00 a.m., time to get up to catch a good shoot from sunset over Bryce Canyon. We never been up that early to see any tourist attraction and were quite stunned about all the folks up here on the Overlook of Bryce Canyon.

The night before, after our arriving at the Bryce Canyon Lodge, it took us quite a while (about one hour) to get something to eat at this Lodge. It was crazy to see that they didn't took any reservations although this place was really crowded due to the lack of variety for dining. Funny how everybody was sitting in the lobby with their computers and tablets in front, either waiting with the pager to get a place to eat (as soon as it started to buzz, you were up for the next available table) or to check their e-mail or play some games, because this was the only place with a Wifi-connection. It was special to realize, how the modern communication has everybody under control. But that's just a little slide-in to show you the little problems we had during our trip. ;-)

Right on time, we reached the Bryce Point (8'296 feet, 2'529 meters above sea level) to catch the sunrise at 7:24 a.m. Below you will find the pictures we made there:
Before sunset

right after sunset... hoooow beautiful, isn't it?

After the early wake up call, we explored the rest of this Nationalpark with our car. Based on the early hour it seemed that we were one of the first visiters on this day who intended to determine the Bryce Canyon Nationalpark.

Like never before, we saw a lot of animals crossing our way to get up to the highest point in this area. Somehow it was strange that we didn't met more people and even on the way back, not many cars came along. But we couldn't find an explanation at this moment...

Lucky for this turkey that Thanksgiving isn't right away... ;-)

After we took the pictures below, we decided to leave Bryce Canyon Nationalpark, because we intended to be at the Zion's Lodge early to make a room change for the upcoming nights at the Lodge.

As we reached the entrance gate (for us the exit) of the Bryce Canyon N.P. we were kind of surprised that the Park Rangers let nobody in. We thought it was a safety measure due to all the animals we saw on the road. Nevertheless our way led us towards our next destination - the Zion Nationalpark.

As we took the last junction to get into Zion National Park, we saw a confusing sign that the park is currently closed. Without thinking we got along and reached the entry port. As we were prepared to pay the obligate entrance fee (25 USD), the Ranger let us know, that he won't get any money from us due to the shutdown of the Government. WOW, we were really surprised about such bad news... What we didn't know at this time was, what impact this shotdown would have on our actual journey.

As soon as we reached the Zion's Lodge, which is situated inside of the park, we realized, that there would be nothing to do the next two days, because all the hiking-trails are closed due to the above-mentioned shutdown. We quickly decided to check out the options we've got. The hotel staff was very kind and let us immediately know that we could cancel our reservation. We were quite lucky under this circumstances because now we had the opportunity to spend five days instead of three in Las Vegas.

Spontaneously we were looking for a good place to stay in the Sin City for the next days. The winner for us was the favourite place in the north part of the Strip, called Wynn Resort. We booked a Tower Suite for two nights, which looked as follows:

Beautiful view from the 25th floor

The room was very bright with all his features (sofa, bed and so on...)

There was even a TV installed in the bathroom (see right handside).

Chilling ambience and beautiful view from the separate pool we could use due to the suite we reserved.
This accomodation left nothing to be desired. There was a very good breakfast included (see next picture). Afterwards we were really happy about our choice. What we got for the money we spent was far more than we expected. Let's go and spend your next days in Las Vegas in that Resort!!

Forecast to the next post: Our days in Las Vegas. We wish all of you a happy weekend. Enjoy and have fun! ;-)
